Golf Tournament

What do you get when you put one great golfer, two good golfers and one bad golfer together on a team? The winning team. At least that is what happened at our annual golf tournament. After being rescheduled twice and being pushed into the heat of the summer 34 of First Baptist's "finest" golfers braved the balmy July weather to give their best shot at a game that can bring out the worst in people. The tournament was intended to be a time of fellowship and fun so the fact that there was very little good golf played was acceptable. There were some great prizes to be won but bragging rights seemed to be more important. I've got bragging rights! I was (the bad golfer) on the winning team.
While being reminded of all the things wrong with my golf game, I was reminded of how life is supposed to work. The great golfer on the team, his last name is Estrada, was not the only contributor to our success. Matt Brannon is a good athlete and he is young so he had two advantages and he used them well and my Dad the other good golfer in the bunch was clutch with his putting. If you are not a sports person and are wondering what "clutch" means, he made some good putts right when we needed it. I even made a couple of decent shots. We also used some good strategy and had a little luck.
What does this have to do with how life is supposed to work? Well, as a child of God I am blessed in innumerable ways. One of those is that I have brothers and sisters, teammates. Some of you, my teammates, have gotten good at life in one way or another. I need your help. You might even need my help sometime. We can pray for one another, encourage each other and just help our teammates navigate the hazards of life. The best of it all comes at the end of life when we can celebrate together with our Heavenly Father the joy of having been a part of his team doing work in the world. I am glad to be a part of the First Baptist team and more importantly I am glad to be a part of God's team.
